Lake District Ancient Mystical Sites Tour South

Lake District South & Coast Ancient & Historical Sites Tour

A One Day Lake District Megalithic Tour

As an important part of the megalithic western fringe of ancient Britain the English Lake District is a national treasure.  Here we find some of the some of the most amazing and significant stone circles, Viking and Celtic crosses and historical sites from many time periods including some spectacular castles and abbeys. This action packed days adventure will include Lakeland towns, majestic fells and beautiful mountain and coastal views. We will begin with a visit to the town of Keswick, lying at the heart of the Northern Lake District before moving onto Castelrigg stone circle, standing on the outskirts of the town in a wonderful natural amphitheater of mountains. From here we will drive high up onto the fells to take in the tranquil Blakely Rise Stone Circle, one of the most remote ancient monuments in Britain. We will then head for the coast and a lunch break in the town of Whitehaven, with its yachting marina and seaside market. From here the journey south down the west coat of Cumbria will include some fascinating ancient, mystical and historical sites including probably the best carved Viking cross standing in the church yard in Gosforth, the 9th century cross in Irton, a pair of Neolithic standing stones and Swinside stone circle, one of the best preserved anywhere.
