A Seven Day Journey of Land, Sea & 5000 Years
Day 1. Ferry to Orkney
The meeting places will be Preston, Lancashire or Aberdeen ferry terminal, from where we will travel to Orkney via North Link Ferry and book into the Orca Guesthouse, Stromness, our home for the next three nights, on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2. Tour of Orkney Ancient & Mystical
Today we will explore the famous ancient sites of Orkney including the magnificent Maes Howe, the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae, the Great Sacred Monuments of Stennes’, chambered tombs, Souterrains, standing Stones and ancient settlements. These are some of the most important Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in Europe.
Day 3. Tour of Orkney Ancient & Mystical Sites
A second day taking in the amazing ancient and mystical sites of Orkney.
Day 4. Tour of the Ancient & Historical Sites of Orkney & the Ferry to Shetland
On this third day touring the ancient and historical sites of Orkney we will visit the fascinating Italian Church, Mine Howe and the Tomb of the Eagles chambered tomb, ending the day with an evening walk along the cliff tops. Our second ferry, heading further north to the Shetland Isles, will leave this evening and on this sea crossing we will have cabins so we can wake up in Lerwick refreshed and ready to explore. This evening’s crossing will be on a shared ‘cabin only’ basis but there will be an opportunity for us to visit the ship’s café in the morning after docking.
Day 5. Tours of the Ancient & Historical Sites of Shetland
After arriving in Lerwick, the largest town on the Shetland Isles and checking into the B&B we will have some free time in the town after touring the islands ancient and historical sites and taking in this tranquil and peaceful island, which lies far north of the British main land.
Day 6. Tour of the Ancient & Historical Sites of Shetland & the Ferry to Aberdeen
Another day taking in the ancient sites of Shetland before catching the ferry from the port of Lerwick heading for Aberdeen. Crossing we will again have cabins so we can wake up in Aberdeen refreshed and ready to explore. This evening’s crossing will again be on a shared cabin only basis but there will be an opportunity for us to visit the ship’s café in the morning after docking.
Day 7. Tour of Recumbent Stone Circles of Aberdeen
The famous Recumbent Stone Circles of Aberdeen are a phenomenon of the ancient world, left to us by our ancestors and we will be visiting two or three of these before the tour ends.

(Single Supplement for rooms on land – £100)
Cost Includes, Neil’s services as an ancient sites guide, accommodation on land on a B&B basis, administration costs & Costs associated with ferry crossings, (The overnight sea crossings are on a room only basis with cabins shared with one other.)
Not included, Travel insurance, please ensure you have all the relevant travel and health insurance. Lifts around the ancient sites, which are free of charge.
