Proposed Itinerary for the Orkney Islands Tour
Day 1. Ferry to Orkney
Leaving from Preston, Lancashire we will head north to the Aberdeen ferry terminal, from where we will travel to Orkney via North Link Ferry and book into our home for the next four nights, on a bed and Continental breakfast basis.
Days 2-3-4-5. Tour of Orkney Ancient & Mystical
Over the next three days we will explore the famous ancient sites of Orkney including the magnificent Maes Howe, the Ring of Brodgar, Skara Brae, the Great Sacred Monuments of Stennes’, chambered tombs, Souterrains, standing Stones and ancient settlements. These are some of the most important Neolithic and Bronze Age sites in Europe.
We also take the ferry across to the island of Hoy, to visit the unusual chambered tomb known as the Dwarfie Stane, amazingly carved out of one massive rock. Our other island tour will be the Rousey, the home of some facinating chambered tombes including the massive Midhowe.
We will also be visiting the historical and fascinating Italian Church and Kirkwall, the island’s capital and the place of the magnificent St Magnus Cathedral and the Earl’s Palace. hopefully we will end the final day with an evening walk along the Gloup of Mull Head cliff tops to the remains of an early church overlooking the sea.
Then in the evening of day five we will take the overmight ferry back to Aberdeen, with cabin shared with one other (room basis only).
